I’m delighted to be bringing Sleep Yoga to Westport, Co Mayo, Ireland with this two hour workshop at the Republic of Fitness on Saturday 15th June from 2-4pm (€20).
As well as including some self care coaching and psychoeducation about the physiology of sleep, this unique workshop includes mindfulness meditation, gentle yoga to help the body and mind prepare for sleep and a 30 minute Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation).
Please wear/bring: comfortable clothes. You might want to bring extra layers for the Yoga Nidra as, as well as boosting dopamine and lowering blood pressure, body temperature can drop. It’s more relaxing to be comfortable and cosy. Some people find eye masks and bolsters help them. If you have your own yoga mat and strap (or any long belt or scarf), you might want to bring them, too.
I’ve been interested in sleep issues since I was a small child with insomnia. I so wish I’d had these mind body tools back then. Sleep issues are one of my specialisms working with individual clients (READ MORE…).
When I qualified as a yoga instructor and yoga therapist for mental health in 2012, I started teaching small classes to help people sleep better.
In 2014, I was one of the first people to train in Lisa Sanfilippo’s Organic Awakenings Yoga for Insomnia and Better Sleep Method. Since then, she has written Yoga Therapy for Insomnia and Sleep Recovery (Singing Dragon, 2019).
Over the years, my holistic approach to self care for sleep has evolved and, for a year before moving to Westport, Co Mayo, Ireland, I taught a weekly Sleep Yoga class at Benton Hall Golf & Country Club in Essex, UK. I also developed an online programme to help people Sleep Well.
I love being able to share simple and effective tools that you can integrate into your own self care for sleep tool kit to sleep better and feel more awake during the day. One of the biggest benefits of better sleep is having the energy to pursue our dreams.
